Kicking Off NaBloPoMo

So here I am, giving National Blog Posting Month a try. God, I’m so nervous! Unfortunately, I am starting off on the wrong foot already. With this being the day after Halloween, and because I attended a big Halloween party last night, my mind is struggling to put words together and form coherent sentences. I’m here anyway though and I figure the best way to get back on the right foot is to start putting together a plan for the month.

The reason I have decided to participate in NaBloPoMo this month is the need for a better blogging habit. The goal has always been to improve my writing, reach a wider audience, and to express myself with the hopes of helping other’s in whatever small way I can. Posting regularly seems to be the only way to do that. I have been working with the mantras of practice, practice, practice, and slow progress, not perfection. NaBloPoMo, hopefully, will help me build that blogging habit so that I can get better.

I already do post most days out of the month but I admit it isn’t easy. I don’t have any sort of posting plan or schedule or even a list of ideas at my disposal BUT working on that has become priority number one! I am sure my chances of success this month would be greatly improved if I didn’t have to stress daily about what to write about and then find the time to get it written and published before it’s too late for anyone to even read it.

I have worked out a list of topics I’d like to cover. These include Zen, mindfulness, and minimalism (obviously), philosophy, mental illness, some productivity and life hacks I’d like to try out, some science or bits of things I learn everyday, and relationships and love. These are very broad I know but it is a narrower list than “anything and everything that pops into my head”. I’m hoping narrowing the list will make it easier for me to focus on finding new ideas. Not only that but only the new ideas that will work for me. No more wasting time on things I’m not really going to write about.

I’m also going to devote much more of my time to reading other blogs. I used to read other people much more often but then my day job started to take up a lot more of my time. My boss just hired on more help though so I should be able to slow down a bit now without feeling too guilty about it. I’d like to use that time to connect with more of you. I think NaBloPoMo is a great time to find and follow other bloggers who are trying to improve and put out great content just like me. I’d love to give some encouraging words to them too.

And now here’s the part where I ask you for a favor. I really hope you all will follow along with me this month. I’m really going to put forth a lot of effort to be here and improve my writing and I’d love if I could get more feedback this month. So if you have a minute please, either follow me here on WordPress, or check out my Twitter, or you can like my new Facebook page if that’s more your thing.

So wish me luck and if you are also participating in NaBloPoMo this month let me know in the comments. I would love to see check out what other people are doing!
