Writer’s Quote Wednesday – Gloria Steinem

This weeks Writer’s Quote Wednesday is dedicated to the great Gloria Steinem. I don’t know a whole lot about her but I do know she is basically a real life Wonder Woman. She’s a super feminist, a journalist, an activist, a lecturer, and the recipiant of many awards and founder of many organizations. She also the author of many books such as Revolution from Within: A Book of Self-Esteem and Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions, both of which I have added to my “to-read” list.

She is an amazing woman and my newest role model.

“Writing is the only thing that when I do it, I don’t feel I should be doing something else.”

― Gloria Steinem

This quote puts into words exactly how I have been feeling lately. Writing is the only thing I do that I am content doing. When I am doing anything else, I wish I was writing. When I am at work, I wish I could be writing. When I am doing the dishes, I wish I were writing. When I am in the shower, I make it quick so I can get back to writing.

I have even begun feeling angry when I am forced not to write for hours on end.

I don’t want to give the wrong impression though, I do enjoy doing other things. I enjoy spending time with my girlfriend and my family. I enjoy reading good books and watching good movies. I enjoy sleeping and eating. But even through my enjoyment of those thing I am in some part of my brain, thinking about writing. The things I enjoy are my inspiration.

And I can’t wait to get writing again.
