If We Were Having Coffee – Everything is Irritating, Mad Max was Awesome, and Derby Girls are Tough

If we were having coffee I would apologize for the bad mood I am in right now and assure you that despite the lack of a smile on my face I am very happy to see you. I’m doing my best change my mood and be positive but lately it has been hard, I’m either depressed or hormonal. I’ll just wait a few days and see if I feel better to find out.

If we were having coffee I would tell you that this past week wasn’t all that eventful, which is unusual. Work was pretty boring and I spent most of it feeling irritable and angry. There were moments where I felt happy or at the very least amused but the moments were short-lived. All I wanted to do was get away from everyone. I wanted some peace and quiet and I wanted to draw and write and listen to music.

Unfortunately the bills gotta be paid and that means I have to suck it up and work. So I did and I got through it ok. Things were accomplished and my bosses were happy with me so that was good. They keep telling me that it might start getting more stressful soon but honestly I am doing my best to keep my work load as light as possible. This upcoming week looks mostly open so there should be more time for me to work on my side projects.

If we were having coffee I would tell you that even though my week sucked my weekend has been kind of nice. Friday night me and my girlfriend went to see Mad Max: Fury Road at my new favorite movie theater, The Alamo Drafthouse.

The Alamo is one of those theaters that really cares about films. They show a ton of old/classic films and they do quote-along/sing-along events, they show old, cheesy clips from lesser known films pre-show which is both good and bad, and I can eat and have a drink during my movie. The thing I like most about The Alamo though is their very strict “no talking/no cellphone use” during the movie policy. You talk too much you get kicked out, that’s it.

So, what did I think of the movie? IT WAS AWESOME! I think the point wasn’t to have the best plot ever, I think the point was to make something that was visually amazing, and it surely was. I was sitting up in my seat, head pivoting from side to side, trying to take in all of the beautiful graphics I could. The shots were beautiful and all the cars and weapons were so cool looking! Go see it, I promise you will like it.

If we were having coffee I would tell you that yesterday me and my girl went to our very first roller derby bout. We saw the Rocky Mountain Roller Girls 5280 Fight Club vs The Gotham Girls All-Stars and  the Rocky Mountain Roller Girls Contenders vs The Gotham Girls Wall Street Traitors. The Gotham Girls demolished both of our teams but it was still a ton of fun to watch. Those girls are tough!

A couple of weeks ago The Rocky Mountain Roller Girls held try-outs and I thought my girlfriend would be interested. She didn’t feel ready to join the sport yet but she is interested so we are going to start going to the bouts and learning about the game while she works on getting fit and then maybe next year she could be one of the new derby girls which I think is so cool! I told her I would love to tell people that I was dating a derby girl.

If we were having coffee I would tell you that I am hoping to get out and do things like this every weekend. I have been really poking around Facebook’s events feature and there are so many events in there that I can check out. I have found places that are showing free movies, I have found festivals, I have found concerts, I have even found protests I can join in there. I can say “yes I am going” or “maybe I am going” or I can just save them for later and then they sync up with my Google calendar. Easy-peasy!

The thing I love about this city is that in the summertime there is so much to do, and this year I want to do as much as possible. I have to check the “nearby events” on Facebook almost daily because there is a ton being added all the time. I also send invites out to my girlfriend and friends which is a really convenient way to get everyone together without having to give a bunch of people al the details by hand. They click the event, they see when and where, they say yes or no, they even get links to a map and to buy tickets (if applicable). Oh what a time to be alive!

If we were having coffee I would tell you that I was sorry but I have to run, there is so much to do around this house. My girlfriend has brought her work home and so I have to take care of the pets and the house on my own today. I also have other posts to write and I’d like to make some progress in my reading too.

I hope you had a good weekend and thank you again for stopping by to say hi :)

  1. What a week!

I’ve heard such a mix of good things about Mad Max that I really want to see it. :)

And oh, roller derby! It’s so much fun—–glad you got to experience it!

    1. Right! I live in a big tourist town and I have hardly ever gotten out to see all the great thing here, even though I’ve lived here almost my whole life. I am on a mission to change that!
