Hello and happy Wednesday everyone. We made it halfway but if you are in need of a little inspiration to get you the rest of the way I suggest you check out Colleen’s weekly writing event, Writer’s Quote Wednesday. Every week bloggers post their favorite quotes to help us get through this tough, but wonderful, thing called writing.
My contribution for the week is a quote from the New York Times bestselling author Charlaine Harris. She primarily writes mystery novels and is probably best know for The Southern Vampire Mysteries series about a telepathic waitress named Sookie Stackhouse who solves mysteries with vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural creatures. The series was so popular that HBO turned it into a television series called True Blood.
“If it pleases you and you can write at all, it’s gonna please somebody else.”
— Charlaine Harris
This quote is one of my new favorites. There are days when I feel like nobody could possibly like the things I write about but since I have started this blog I have gotten a lot of comments from people who really enjoy the things I have to say. I don’t have a huge amount of followers or anything, not many people are reading at all, but there are a few who remind me that I am not just shouting into the void here.
I started trying to write a bit of poetry here and there, and at first I tagged it all as “My Shitty Poetry”. I warned everyone that read it that I was bad at it and that I probably shouldn’t even be trying but, surprisingly, when I have asked for feedback it has been good for the most part. In fact one reader commented to tell me that it wasn’t shitty at all and after that I changed the tag to just “Poetry”.
I am learning not to be so hard on myself. I am learning to just do my best and just hit that “Publish” button when I feel I have done all I can. I know that there are a lot of people out there in the great, wide internet and there has to be someone out there who will like whatever it is I have to say.
