The Week’s End – A Round-up of Interesting Stuffs

Every weekend I like to share with you the most interesting things I found across the great, wide web. This week I’ve got some Spike Lee, more podcasts, a graffiti battle, beautiful reads, and a Szymborska poem. Enjoy!

The Little Known Story Behind ‘Do the Right Thing’ – Mental Floss

The script would be his most ambitious yet—a multiracial, intergenerational ensemble set in his home borough of Brooklyn on one hot summer day.

In case you didn’t know, this past week marked the 25th Anniversary of the iconic film, Do the Right Thing. I’ve always been a fan of Spike Lee films, but I’m not sure if it’s because I really enjoy his films or if I like them because me and my dad used to watch them when I was a kid. Movies like She’s Gotta Have It, School Daze, and Jungle Fever. Movies that probably weren’t appropriate for me at that age but, like all movies we watch before we are ready to, have stuck with me all my life.

Do the Right Thing is still a favorite of mine and if you’ve never seen it you need to stop what you are doing and go watch it now!

What’s the Most Beautiful Thing You’ve Ever Read? – A Cup of Jo

In May, Reddit asked, “What’s the most beautiful paragraph or sentence you’ve ever read?” Such a good question! I’ve been mulling it over in my head ever since. Here are a few of my best-loved lines, and I’m curious to hear yours…

A Cup of Jo is a new lifestyle blog I started following an already I have read a lot of great post and gotten tons of inspiration. This particular post got me thinking more about what kinds of things I have been reading and sharing here on my own blog. I am a self-proclaimed “Quote Collector” and I used to collect only the most beautiful (and a sometimes sad) quotes I could find.

Now I collect a lot of inspirational stuff which is nice but I miss the beautiful stuff. I think I will get back to collecting those sad and beautiful quotes I used to love.

5 Amazing Podcasts Every Career Girl Should Listen To – Career Girl Daily

Sometimes you don’t just want to plug-in your headphones to listen to an awesome playlist, sometimes you want to hear awesome, entertaining people chatting about interesting things right in your brain box. Well, if you like to learn and laugh while you listen, these five podcasts are definitely for you!

I wouldn’t call myself a career girl but I am a lover of podcasts and if there are podcasts for women, and by women, that are interesting and entertaining then I want to know about them. I’ve decided to follow every one of the podcasts on this list and give them a try for a few weeks. My list needed more chicks anyway.

A Graffiti Artist Posted His Year-Long Battle With A Clean-Up Crew And It’s Hilarous – Buzzfeed

Street artist Mobstr has spent the last year locked in a battle of wits with the local council in Hackney Wick.

I love street art but I love it even more when a back and forth battle begins between the artist, who continues to tag the same wall, and clean-up crews who have to remove it. This battle lasted a year and the result is hilarious.

Amanda Palmer Reads Polish Nobel Laureate Wislawa Szymborska’s Poem “Life While-You-Wait” – Brain Pickings

I know nothing of the role I play.
I only know it’s mine. I can’t exchange it.

I have to guess on the spot
just what this play’s all about.

I admit I had never heard of Wislawa Szymborska before but after hearing this poem I want to know more. I like the way she explains life like it’s the premier of a play you never got to rehearse for..

There you have it, my favorite things this week. Have you read or heard, or written something interesting this week? Please, share it with the class by dropping a link in the comments. Thanks :)
