Good morning everyone! It’s so nice to see you after the tiny break I had to take from blogging this past week. I was super busy, and at times quite frustrated that I didn’t have enough hours in the day to do everything I wanted but things should go back to normal now. You’ll be seeing a lot more of me again :)
If we were having coffee I would tell you that this past week at my day job we hired a new class of employees and that meant I had to help train them, even though I had told my boss I didn’t want to train anymore. I mean I don’t mind helping out a bit here and there but by the end of the week I was basically running the whole class while the people who get paid more than me were at times no where to be found. I was pissed!
I talked to my boss about it and I think things are going to get better. I am worried I might have snapped a little and sounded like I was complaining too much but all I really want is for the communication to get better. If I knew exactly what was happening and where the staff was I could plan my time better.
If we were having coffee I would tell you the other reason I was absent was because I was celebrating my lovely lady’s 29th birthday. Unfortunately I couldn’t do a lot for her this week because we are short on money but I chose to give of my time instead. We watched movies and YouTube videos, we drank and talked, we took walks and stayed up later than we should have. It was nice.
On her actual birthday her sister had a huge selection of Chinese food delivered to our house which I thought was a really nice gift idea. Especially because her sister lives in California and had our food delivered from a local Chinese place here in Denver, Colorado. The food was delicious, the wine we picked up was almost too good, but the dessert I prepared did not come out well. I tried to make dairy free penne cotta and I think it needed more gelatin.
It never became anything more that coconut milk soup :(
If we were having coffee I would tell you that even though I didn’t get much writing done I did manage to get a handle on an editorial calendar. I was using a monthly planner I stole from work but I also needed a planner for my other tasks in life and I couldn’t stand the idea of having more than one planner. I like to keep things as simple as possible.
So I bought a 3 pack of Moleskine Cahier Journals and divided each page in half. Each half page represents a day and I just list everything I have to do that day. I list work things, I list blog posts, I list Twitter chats and Twitter hashtags to use, I list Birthdays and Holidays. I make one big list of everything, which turns out not to be as much as I thought. So far it’s working really well and I expect to be getting tons more done around here because of it.
I also bought a soft cover Shinola notebook for funsies, and to use as a regular journal.
If we were having coffee I would tell you that I have some very exciting news to tell you. A little over a month ago, on the suggestion of Colleen from Silver Threading, I submitted a few of the poems I have written for this blog to a new zine called fēlan, old English for “feel”. Just this week I got an email letting me know TWO of my poems will be included in issue #1, all about Love! I’m super excited!
This will be the first time I have submitted anything and while it’s a new zine, and probably no one has ever even heard of it, but I am still proud. It’s still a step in the direction I am trying to go, which is to get off the screen and into print. On top of that it is very flattering to be chosen for inclusion in someone’s project.
I promise I will let you know when it’s released.
If we were having coffee I would tell you that I had probably been rambling on for long enough and that it was probably time for me to go. I have house work to do and my dog is begging to be taken out for a long run. I hope you had a wonderful week and I hope the next will be even better. Update me in the comments ok :)
