The Week’s End // A Round-up of All Sorts of Interesting Stuff

Happy Saturday everyone! If you’re looking for some interesting reads to check out while you kick back and relax, look no further, I’ve got you covered! Every weekend I like to share some of the most interesting things I found across the great, wide web. Enjoy!

You probably don’t deserve it // Austin Kleon

In the beginning, you have to trick yourself into believing you have something worth saying.

An interesting write-up from one of my favorite authors on the types of critics you need when you are first starting out vs the types of critics you need when you achieve success. Also, “imposter syndrome” is something we all suffer from and we should continue to suffer from it, for our own good.

Thanksgiving. It’s not always happy. // The Bloggess

The holiday season is supposed a time when family and friends come together to celebrate and be merry, but it isn’t that way for everyone. Not everyone can feel thankful and not everyone has family or friends to see. Let’s not forget them.

Living Without Water: Contamination Nation // Vice News

There are tens of thousands of Americans living without clean, running water on the Navajo Nation today. This is because decades of uranium mining have contaminated the majority of water sources on the reservation.

On Thanksgiving I wrote about keeping the suffering of the Native Americans in your thoughts and raising awareness for the ways in which the still suffer. Here is one such issue, access to clean water.

Guilty // Victim to Charm

I’m guilty of feeling invincible.

Sabina at Victim to Charm is doing “Microvember”, her own take on NaBloPoMo. This piece is a list of things she is guilty of. Things we all might be guilty of.

The Spark File // Steven Johnson

Looking back at all the tools and techniques that I’ve developed over the years as a writer, it occurs to me that most of them are, in one way or another, grappling with two critical mental forces: the power (and weakness) of human memory, and the sometimes overwhelming drive to procrastinate.

We all have them, ideas for books, art, music, a product or app, blog posts. They come to us at the most inconvenient of times, in the middle of the night, in the shower, while we are working our day jobs. What do you do with those little sparks of ideas you have through out the day?

We Need to Speak Out // Eclectic Alli

There is an awful lot of pretty horrific stuff going on in our world right now.

The world is going to shit and the silent majority has to stop being so silent. Wake up, speak up.

But What Do You Want to be Thanked For? // Becoming Minimalist

But this year, I have been challenged by a new question. What if, rather than just asking, “What do I have to be thankful for?” we also began asking, “What do I want to be thanked for?”

All month we have been working on being thankful for what we have but have you thought people who might be thankful for you? WHat do you hope the appreciate most about you? What effect do you hope you have on others lives?

beneath the sheets and // y

beneath the sheets and
the comforter and the duvet

A lovely little poem :)

Never Wrong, or Humble Pie // Geek Ergo Sum

I am genetically unable to be wrong, it is a condition I have inherited from my mother.

People don’t want to be wrong but they don’t try very hard to make sure they are right. The press is particularly guilty of this.

Kendrick Lamar and J Cole’s New “Black Friday” Freestyles // Pigeons and Planes

Kendrick Lamar and J Cole have been kind enough to gift us with something better than any sale with “Black Friday.”

If you are into hip-hop at all you have to know that two of the best right now are J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar. In my humble opinion they are bringing hip hop back to what it should be, an art form, poetry. These two have blessed us all by releasing remixes of one another’s songs. Christmas has come early this year!

And that’s it for this week. Have you read, watched, heard, or written an interesting thing this week? If so, share with the class by leaving a link in the comments :)
