Hello and happy Sunday! I’m so glad you could make it for our “coffee catch up” date. This past week was a long one but is was also pretty good. I made it through the last week of work before Christmas break without getting too stressed out or depressed and considering it’s the holiday season and the craziest time for the schools (besides the first few weeks) I have to say it really feels like I’ve accomplished something.
If we were having coffee I would tell you that the hardest part of the week was dealing with the crappy weather we had. We got some 10 inches of snow overnight Monday into Tuesday which resulted in terrible driving conditions and forced many school districts to close for the day. Which meant I had the day off! Which I wasted being totally lazy.
The snow day turned out to be a curse more than a blessing though. Tuesday marked the first day of finals for the high schoolers and since they missed it the district had to extend finals into Friday which cause mass confusion and miscommunication. We did it though, we saw the light at the end of the tunnel and knew we could make it.
If we were having coffee you might be happy to know I got through all that without having one cigarette. Today I am 25 days smoke free! The longest I have gone without a cigarette in a very long time. My withdrawal symptoms have just about subsided, I still get irritable in the early afternoons and my addiction tries to bargain with about once a day, but if I can make it through New Year’s I should be fine.
My quitting buddy is doing well too. She is dealing with much more stress than I am so if she slipped I would understand but she is holding on. We tell each other to stay strong and that we can do it. It’s nice to have someone who is feeling the same way I am, unhappy and uncomfortable yet proud. It’s nice to not feel alone or weak. I hope we both make it through this.
If we were having coffee I would have to tell you about this new app I found. It’s called Duolingo and its awesome for learning a new language. I started with Spanish because I figured it would be the easiest. I’ve been at it for just 7 days and I am already 13% fluent. I set a goal of about 10 minutes per day but I got addicted to the way this app teaches and I end up doing 30 – 90 minutes a day in little spurts during breaks or waiting times.
I really can’t say enough good things about this app. Learning a new language has been a goal of mine for a very long time and I finally feel like I can really do it!
If we were having coffee I would tell you that I got to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens Friday night. I already wrote a spoiler-free review but if you don’t feel like reading I’ll just say I really enjoyed it and had a great time being out with so many other fans. The theater was packed and even out in the lobby there were people dressed up as various characters just hanging out and enjoying their mutual interest and enthusiasm for the franchise.
I can’t help thinking that this is possibly the last time there will be such enthusiasm for a movie. We already know there will be more films now, in 2017 and 2019 I believe. We won’t feel the same anticipation for those as The Force Awakens got. I am glad I got to be a part of it.
If we were having coffee I would tell you that as happy I as I am about having the next two weeks off, I did volunteer to work a little bit. I just wasn’t comfortable missing out on that much pay. I’ll only be working a few day, and they will be half-days at that. I won’t be doing very hard work and for the most part I expect not to see much of my bosses.
I am regretting the choice now though because two weeks away from work does sound really good. I would have time to get a head start on some of my other projects. I will still have a little but not as much as I had hoped. I may just tell my boss I’ve changed my mind….
If we were having coffee I would tell you that I have almost zero planning for Christmas. I ordered my little sister’s gift, and my niece and nephew aren’t very picky so a trip through Target’s toy aisles should be good enough. We’ll be at my mother’s this year so the cooking will be handled and all I have to bring is cider and whiskey. My girlfriend may make a bread pudding too.
For New Year’s I will probably be at home with my girlfriend, there is a small chance I will be with a few friends. Nothing crazy, no big parties, I’ve gotten to the point in my life where a big New Year’s celebration isn’t really my thing. I like something a little quieter. I plan to end 2015 and start 2016 on a pretty boring note.
If we were having coffee I would tell you that I had better get going. It might be winter break but I still have laundry to wash and grocery shopping to do. If I don’t get moving now I might not at all and these chores are harder during the week than they are on a Sunday afternoon.
I hope you had a wonderful week. I would love to hear all about it in the comments. Thanks again for stopping by, adiós mi amigo, and in case I don’t see you, feliz Navidad y próspero Año Nuevo :)
