Happy Saturday everyone! If you’re looking for some interesting reads to check out while you kick back and relax, look no further, I’ve got you covered! Every weekend I like to share with you the most interesting things I found across the great, wide web. Enjoy!
Donald Trump Gains Clear Path to Nomination // The Wall Street journal
Donald Trump almost certainly snared the Republican Party’s presidential nomination by winning a sweeping victory in Indiana’s primary Tuesday and forcing his chief rival from the race.
So I’m sure you’ve heard by now, the worst thing that could’ve happened has happened and Trump is the Republican nominee. I still don’t expect he will be our next president but I have to admit having him this close is a bit scary. Very scary actually.
Bonus: Check out one of Hillary’s new Trump attack ads, it’s pretty good
In celebration of his exit from the 2016 presidential race, and by request, here is a more-or-less complete collection of all the horrible ways I’ve described Ted Cruz during the campaign.
I hate that Trump has a chance at being our next President but I really hated Cruz too. This list was extremely satisfying.
On Restrooms, Gender, and Fear // glorify
So, when I go to use the women’s bathroom, the bathroom of the sex to which I was assigned at birth, things get interesting.
Obviously, bathroom bills like the ones in North Carolina affect Trans people wanting to use bathroom that do not match the sex on their birth certificates, but what about gender queer people who want to use the bathrooms hey are supposed to under the law but are being confronted, questioned, and even pulled from the restroom? Where do they go?
It’s another bad day for North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory and everyone else willing to die on the hill of the state’s infamous “bathroom bill.”
There was some good political news last week though. Noth Carolina’s HB2—the bill that forces people to use the bathroom that correspondes with the sex they were assigned at birth rather than the gender they identify as—has been found to violate civil rights. DUH!
Of Less is More // Of Opinions
“I don’t like writing essays anymore. At least, not the confessional ones. I haven’t been writing well lately. And I don’t want to talk about depression and existential crises using myself as a case study anymore. I want to switch to fiction – in prose, drama and poetry. That’s where a ‘career’ is.”
I have been feeling the same lately. Essays of the confessional/biographical type are what I do but lately I have been trying fition on for a change. Fiction is where careers are built so I have to start learning, and God is there so much to learn. It’s hard and I don’t think I am very good at all but maybe if I keep at it
Overcoming Bad Inner Voices // School of Life
All of us have deeply unhelpful inner voices inside us, dragging us down with criticisms and unfair accusations. Wisdom involves learning how to replace them with more benevolent guides.
We have a FREE “Daily Cartoon” email that is filled with a dose of inspiration and humor.
I love newsletters. Well, I love good newsletters. I like the kind that inspire me and get me thinking and moving. This is one of them. If you don’t believe me check out the archives and decide for yourself.
I’m Not Sold On Relationships // Hookup Culture
I’m not sold on the idea of only being with one person for the rest of your life. Because I’m only in my 20’s and feel like I’ve been 10 different people already.
I am sold on relationships but I have been in one for a very long time. We have had our ups and downs and there have been wondering and what-if’s but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. It’s not for everyone though and I think that there are pros and cons to being single vs. attatched. One is not inherently better than the other.
Pink // What Rhymes with Stanza?
“No, she’s just a worrier, so her forehead wrinkles. Part boxer, part lab.” Part opportunist, waiting for me to set my drink in the cup holder between us.
An adorable story about dogs, one who is mistaken for a male and a Shar-Pei and another who’s masculinity is not thretened by a pink collar and leash.
More Precious Than Ivory: The African Elephant // Great Big Story
The African elephant is the largest land mammal in the world, and it eats a lot to maintain that size. Every day it consumes up to 600 pounds of leaves, roots, fruits, grasses and bark. But size offers little protection from the threat of poaching for this giant.
Check out the entire playlist, there are some pretty awesome animals in there.
